This class is geared for those who want a greater understanding of Montessori or who desire to work with young children, such as day care providers and homeschooling folks, as well as experienced teachers who wish to understand the underlying principles of the Montessori method of education.
INSTRUCTOR: Nancy Schaitel, retired AMS Montessori teacher, holds a WI teaching license, has 15 years experience in the Montessori classroom with 4-6 year olds, former Co-Executive Director of Wisconsin Montessori Association, Montessori consultant for start-up of Montessori charter schools.
OUTLINE OF COURSE CONTENT:
Session 1: Expectations and Overview of the Course; History of Maria Montessori and the Method; Brain-based education and how that translates into the Montessori classroom; school visitation expectations Session 2: Practical Life area; Discussion on chapters 1+ 2; let me know what school they are visiting/when Session 3: Sensorial area; Discussion of chapters 3 and 4; Presentation of PL material Session 4: Math area; Discussion of chapter 5; Presentation of Sensorial material Session 5: Language area; Discussion of Visitations to Montessori schools; Presentation of Math or Language material
Attendance and participation in discussions are both mandatory.
All assignments will be completed and handed in on time.
Visitation to a Montessori Children’s House classroom will be set up and carried out by the student.
Handmade materials will be purchased and presented on time by the student.
